Mount Kenya leaders lay out unity plans, ahead of the 2022 General Elections. But for Mt Kenya grassroot politics, who will actually survive the political storm in the 9 August, 2022 polls?

Mt Kenya is a rich vote region in Kenya, with more than 8 million registered voters.
The region has not agreed on a strong political figure to take over as the region's supremo.
The mountain has been restless over its future as President Uhuru Kenyatta’s term comes to an end in 10 months time.

Several meetings have been held in the region to forge Mt Kenya unity.
Chama Cha Kazi leader Moses Kuria, Narc Kenya leader Martha Karua and the TSP leader Mwangi Kiunjuri came up with Mt Kenya Unity Caucus to spearhead unity of the region.
Other political leaders, including former Kiambu County Governor and Tujibebe Wakenya Party leader William Kabogo, have since joined the caucus.

According to these leaders, the forum for Mt Kenya region is not about individual but uniting the mountain for it to speak with one voice.

Tangatanga is a breakaway wing of the Jubilee Party supporting the Deputy President William Ruto’s 2022 presidential bid. The remaining faction is the Kieleweke team, which is loyal to President Kenyatta.

The Kieleweke camp is split on who to support in the next general election; with some proposing the former opposition leader Hon. Raila Odinga while some think that would be a political suicide in their backyards.

Currently, there are two governors, for Murang'a and Embu serving in their second term. The rest will be seeking re-election. The question is, who among them will survive the political storm on 9 August, 2022 polls
