Rishi Sunak appointed as the new UK Prime Minister

By Ruzeki, Shadow News

Rishi Sunak on Tuesday became Britain’s third prime minister this year and the first person of colour to lead the former imperial power, vowing to overcome a ‘profound’ economic crisis he blamed on the ‘mistakes’ of his predecessor Liz Truss’s calamitous 49-day tenure.

In his first speech as Prime Minister outside the 10 Downing Street shortly after his appointment by King Charles III, Rishi Sunak highlighted the economic challenges, threats of covid and the Russia-Ukraine war.

Mr. Sunak vowed to place economic stability and confidence at the heart of his government agenda. He promised to unite the country, fix the economic crisis and unstintingly support the Ukraine.

Rishi Sunak became the ruling Conservatives’ new leader on Monday October 24th, after triumphing over rival contender Penny Mordaunt, who failed to secure enough nominations from the Conservative MPs.

It had become a two-way fight after Ex-PM Boris Johnson dramatically bolded out of the race late on Sunday 23rd October.

The world leaders and supporters offered their congratulations.
