  • The House Speaker Nancy Pelosi announced that she will relinquish her leadership post after leading House Democrats for two decades; building a legacy as one of the most powerful figures in American politics.
  • Republicans have won the 221 seats for House majority, Shadow News projects.
  • Republicans had hopes of sweeping into power with a 'Red Wave', but instead they will have only a thin majority, complicating their ability to function in the House chamber.
  • The GOP voted to nominate Rep. Kevin McCarthy for speaker. McCarthy won a secret ballot on a 188-31 vote, fending off a long-shot challenge from Rep. Andy Biggs.
  • President Joe Biden has a divided Congress after Democrats kept control of the Senate in last week's midterm elections.
