Nikki Haley delivered a powerful rebuke to Donald Trump with a victory in Vermont, while Joe Biden faces continued protest vote especially in Minnesota after the one in Michigan.

As expected, Republican frontrunner Donald Trump and Democratic incumbent Joe Biden both cruised to easy victories in the vast majority of Super Tuesday's primaries, which are the contests that ultimately decide who receives major party nominations.

Here's some of the highlights of Super Tuesday

Nikki Haley denies Donal Trump a clean sweep of the night’s Republican primaries with her victory in moderate-leaning Vermont.

Incumbent Democratic President Joe Biden cruised to victory in nearly every race, marking a loss only in the small island territory of American Samoa.

Joe Biden did, however, face a protest vote. In the state of Minnesota, for example, approximately 20 percent of voters chose the “uncommitted” option over the incumbent to show their displeasure for his support of Israel’s war in Gaza.

Down-ballot races offered a preview of the November general elections. In California, for instance, progressive candidates were knocked out of contention for an open Senate seat by Democratic centrist Adam Schiff and political newcomer Steve Garvey, a Republican.

And in Texas, a Republican stronghold, Trump’s hold over the party was tested, as the political hopefuls he endorsed struggled to decisively defeat establishment candidates.

The Texas' Republican race was so close, however, that it is set to go to a runoff in May, teeing up another battle for the soul of the party.

Despite a wobble for Biden in American Samoa and a loss for Trump in Vermont, the two frontrunners seem destined for a rematch in November’s general elections.

President Joe Biden: "To every Democrat, Republican, and independent who believes in a free and fair America: This is our moment. This is our fight."
