The recently ousted UDA SG, Cleophas Malala, revealed that DP Gachagua's impeachment plot was orchestrated by the Majority Leader Kimani Ichung'wah and UDA's chair Cecilly Mbarire among other senior officials.
In politics, nothing happens by mere coincidence. The plotters of the impeachment believe that the Deputy President alongside other powerful figures, sponsored the recently violent Gen Z protests, which resulted into rejection of the financial bill, as well as the firing of Cabinet and hiring of a broad-based gov't.
To remind you, it all started with the famous Gachagua vs Kindiki 2022 stalemate. The politics we are seeing now is meant for 2027, or rather it is the start of 2032 succession politics, which was ignited back in 2022 and, refuelled in 2024 by the 'broad-based' element.
Today, I will not talk much about the politics of broad-based gov't, which might be a weapon against DP Gachagua; in case an impeachment motion is tabled before the Parliament. So, let me quickly debrief you about the 2022 drama. It all began at Karen, the then hustler's mansion during the running mate nomination process; 13th to 15th May 2022.
Something interesting happened, Hon. Ichung'wah warned DP Ruto that some MPs are determined to block Hon. Gachagua's direct nomination or even abandon Ruto's camp for Uhuru's Kieleweke camp, which was rooting for Raila Odinga.
Strategically, Ruto halted his running mate deliberations and led Mt. Kenya MPs (TangaTanga) vote between Gachagua and Kindiki. Majority voted for Kindiki, with only three supporting Gachagua.
After the vote, the 'angry' Ruto closed the door, schooled the MPs and announced that he will nominate Rigathi Gachagua because of his political sway and financial muscle. The opposing MPs were not happy at all, they agreed with Ruto's decision anyway but silently vowed to revisit it, when the time is ripe.
Well, seems that time is now, the ongoing fight is an extension of 2022's unsettled scores.
The rift is spilling over from Mt. Kenya to the Rift Valley and beyond, where the UDA MPs are taking sides; for Gachagua or against Gachagua, the ruling coalition (Kenya Kwanza) is even recruiting opposition (ODM) for some reasons. Everyone is flexing her/his muscles, it is about to get messy.
