Looking at Earth from Space: An Easter Reflection by Astronaut Victor Glover

Four Artemis II Astronauts, NASA’s Orion Spacecraft Mission, and Victor Glover's Beautiful Easter Message.

NASA astronaut Victor Glover, Artemis II pilot is among the crew on this historic mission. The first crewed test flight under NASA’s Artemis program is underway.

Four Artemis II astronauts are flying aboard NASA’s Orion spacecraft around the Moon and back, as they test how the spacecraft’s systems operate in a deep space environment.

NASA astronauts Reid Wiseman, Victor Glover, and Christina Koch, and CSA (Canadian Space Agency) astronaut Jeremy Hansen lifted off at 10:35 p.m. GMT on April 1, 2026 from launch pad 39B at the agency’s Kennedy Space Center in Florida.

As we celebrate Easter, it’s worth pausing to reflect on a perspective few of us ever get to experience: seeing Earth from space. Astronaut Victor Glover, currently aboard the Orion capsule on NASA’s Artemis II mission, shared a deeply moving insight that reminds us of our shared humanity and the fragile beauty of our home planet.

“Looking back at the beauty of the Earth, I think for me one of the really important personal perspectives that I have up here is I can really see Earth as one thing.
And you know when I read the Bible and I look at all of the amazing things that were done for us who were created, you have this amazing place, this spaceship.
On Earth, YOU are on a spaceship called Earth that was created to give us a place to live in the universe, in the cosmos.”

Glover’s words remind us that distance changes perspective. From space, the divisions that seem so important on Earth fade away. The borders, the conflicts, the labels—they shrink in comparison to the vastness around us.

“I think maybe the distance we are from you makes you think what we're doing is special, but we're the same distance from you.
And I'm trying to tell you, just trust me, you are SPECIAL.
In all of this emptiness, this is a whole bunch of nothing, this thing we call the universe. You have this oasis, Earth, this beautiful place that we get to exist together.”

As we celebrate Easter, whether you celebrate it for religious reasons or simply as a time of reflection and renewal, Glover’s message resonates: we are all passengers on the same spaceship. Our time here is finite, and the journey is shared.

“I think as we go into Easter Sunday thinking about all the cultures all around the world, whether you celebrate it or not, whether you believe in God or not, this is an opportunity for us to remember where we are, who we are, and that we are the same thing and that we got to get through this together.”

This Easter, let’s take a moment to look at our “spaceship”, Earth, not just as a place to live, but as a shared home for all of humanity. Let’s cherish it, care for it, and care for each other. After all, in the vast cosmos, we are a rare and precious oasis.
