Since 2018, Citizen Tv has been a partisan news network. In the 2022 presidential election, it has crossed a line and become an outright propaganda operation.
There has been notorious instances of runaway abuse of public bandwidth by the Royal Media Services a licensee which has converted its platforms especially the Citizen TV , Inooro TV and Inooro Radio to official campaign mouthpieces of the Azimio La Umoja and its presidential candidate, Hon Raila Odinga. The Daily Nation complements these abuses by becoming their print counterpart.
The media is expected to play a rightful role in cultivating a healthy, robust and inclusive discourse. Every democracy depends on the media to make a political environment less divisive and less toxic.
There is unequal allocation of coverage, compounded by biased framing and negative profiling of the Kenya Kwanza Alliance presidential candidate, Dr William Ruto and his camp.
