Let me make a statement about yesterday's protests: Anti-gov't vs Pro-gov't protests.
I call for supporters and critics of this gov't to proceed peacefully in the streets.
The government has vowed to end violence, widespread looting and destruction of property witnessed during protests that have rocked the country, especially Nairobi.
What was witnessed yesterday and what has been going on for weeks is extremely sad for our country.
I invite everyone to take time and understand the danger or the gravity of 'Ruto must go' protests.
Some of the faceless, anonymous, and formless critics are calling for violence, anarchy and lawlessness.
The media has tried to paint the Pro-gov't protests, which started yesterday as a political move by President William Ruto. But let me tell you, President Ruto has nothing to do with Pro-gov't protests. It is a people's-led counterattack, Kenyans are tired of violent conduct of some Gen Zs(or rather criminals hiding behind Gen Zs).
I remind people that Dr. William Ruto was voted by majority of voters in Aug. 2022 to serve for a five-year term as President of the Republic of Kenya and the C-I-C of the Armed Forces. No faceless, anonymous or formless person/group can overthrow this through violent or unconstitutional means.
"Ngojea mpaka 2027 turudi kwa debe!!!".
Remember, presidential election is not a referendum, it is a choice. But, it's a choice people might not see because of the headline-grabbing propaganda coming from the media & politicians.
We have patriotic and dedicated Kenyans, who are working tirelessly every day upholding the rule of law in our country.
Adherence to the rule of law is a bedrock principle of our constitution. And our country's commitment to the rule of law sets an example for Africa and beyond. Just so we're clear, we have one set of laws in this country, and they apply to anyone.
Violation of our Article 37 or any article in the constitution puts our country at risk.
The women and men of the Kenya Police Service and our Defense Forces dedicate their lives to protecting our country, its citizens and their properties.
One of the group protesting yesterday was peaceful. What I mean is that there was no throwing stones at police, no burning stuff, no looting...and the police were just there watching & patrolling; no teargas, no shooting.
The other group protesting was as violent as usual; looting, throwing stones at police, burning up stuff, vandalizing public/private property, chanting 'Ruto must go', trying to invade/access restricted premises, etc... and the police responded with teargas, & maybe some shooting.
As I usually say, he who passively accepts evil is as much involved in it as he who helps to perpetrate it.
According to Article 37, it is our civil right to assemble, demonstrate, picket and present petitions to public authorities, peaceably and unarmed.
But, this right does not involve looting, stone throwing, breaking into restricted premises or burning buildings.
The police must deal with those looting or destroying public/private property. Finally, the police also must protect peaceful protesters.
