What you need to know about Monkeypox virus and how to protect yourself

Monkeypox is a poxvirus, which originates in wild animals like rodents and primates, and occasionally spreads to people through close physical contact with bodily fluids. 

Here're recommendations from the World Health Organisation (WHO) to PROTECT yourself against  the monkeypox virus. 

1. Avoid contact with infected people. 

2. Wear a face mask when in contact with someone with symptoms. 

3. Use condoms. 

4. Avoid contact with animals that could be carrying the virus.

5. Practice good hand hygiene. 

6. Use PPE when caring for patients. 

7. Only eat meat that has been cooked throughly.
