Cristiano Ronaldo leaves Manchester United: The move comes after the Portuguese star player's explosive and controversial interview with Piers Morgan ahead of FIFA World Cup 2022 in Qatar.

In a not-so-shocking move, the Portuguese star player and football club announced they are parting ways. Cristiano Ronaldo and Manchester United decided to end their acrimonious relationship as the world is glued to screens to watch FIFA World Cup 2022 in Qatar. 

With Ronaldo preparing for Portugal's opening match against Ghana on Thursday, Manchester United on Tuesday announced their split with a statement on its various social media channels. 

"Cristiano Ronaldo is to leave Manchester United by mutual agreement, with immediate effect. The club thank him for his immense contribution across two spells at Old Trafford, scoring 145 goals in 346 appearances, and wishes him and his family well for the future," says the released statement.

Additionally, after the announcement of superstar forward Cristiano Ronaldo leaving Manchester United, the club has confirmed that Manchester United have been put up for sale by owners the Glazer Family.

In a statement issued on Tuesday night, the Old Trafford outfit is "commencing a process to explore strategic alternatives for the club". 

The statement added: "As part of this process, the Board will consider all strategic alternatives, including new investment into the club, a sale, or other transactions involving the Company."
